Hardscape or “hardscaping” consists of the inanimate elements of landscaping, namely masonry and woodwork. For instance, enchanting stone walls and fireplaces, concrete or brick walkways, travertine or flagstone patios, paver paths, retaining walls and steps, decks, pergolas and pavilions, and water fountains are considered part of the hardscape. Anything used in landscaping that is not part of the softscape (gardening elements like plants and trees) is considered a hardscape element.
